A short little life. A surprise from God to change our lives. An unexpected gift of another little one.
We only made it a short 8 weeks before she flew away to heaven.
We named her Aderyn, a celtic word for 'bird' - a beautiful little gift who fluttered into our lives and then too quickly flew away.
For the sake of remembering, when we told the kids of the miscarriage, we weren't sure how much they would understand. We told them the baby wouldn't be coming here but had gone to heaven. Alannah's first response was "Oh, we will get to see her when we get to heaven then?", said with a smile on her face. I was struck by their childlike faith of a true anticipation of the joy of heaven to come. Their simple acceptance of the plan of God for this little one to leave us.
I had felt since finding out we were pregnant, that the baby would be a girl. Both girls were wanting it to be a girl, the boys were a little more split on the matter ;-) But as we told them they have a sister in heaven now, as well as their brother Gedaliah, they remarked that was good, now Gedaliah had a sibling with him too, they all have each other and now they are together and we will see them in heaven.
Alannah smiled when we told them her name, she was really wanting "all the girls to have A names".
And just a month ago, I wrote these thoughts 10 years after we lost Gedaliah, they are still so true even today.
So while we grieve the loss, we also gain another joy, our little
Birdie, waiting for us in heaven someday, making the anticipation of
heaven that much more real.
